Hands-on wildfire hazard modeling training with BurnP3+ coming to Toronto this April

BurnP3+

ApexRMS is pleased to announce an upcoming guided course, Wildfire hazard modeling using BurnP3+, taking place April 14–16, 2026 at York University in Toronto, Ontario. This in-person, two-and-a-half-day training will equip participants with foundational skills for developing and running spatially explicit wildfire hazard models using the BurnP3+ package for SyncroSim.

BurnP3+ is a powerful simulation framework that combines ignitions, fire growth, and environmental conditions to explore wildfire burn probability and hazard across landscapes. Participants will learn wildfire simulation modeling concepts, how to configure and run BurnP3+ models, and best practices for interpreting and communicating results. The course includes hands-on exercises, expert instruction, and discussions of alternative modeling workflows and uncertainty analysis.

Open to both emerging and experienced modelers, this workshop is designed for individuals who want to expand their understanding of wildfire hazard modeling, whether you’ve encountered BurnP3+ in a workshop setting or are ready to build and run your own simulation models. While no advanced software experience is required, an introductory familiarity with R is recommended.

The course will be led by ApexRMS instructors, alongside collaborators from the Canadian Forest Service, offering a blend of theoretical context and practical instruction. Registration is now open, with early-bird pricing available until March 1, 2026, and a limited number of student and postdoctoral seats.

We look forward to welcoming wildfire practitioners, researchers, consultants, and students to Toronto this April for an engaging and practical training experience. For full course details and to secure your spot, visit the course page.
