New workshop: Image classification using ecoClassify

Due to overwhelming demand, our Image classification using ecoClassify workshop is back for a second offering. Following the rapid fill-up of our initial session, we’re opening registration for a new date: November 19th, 2025 (1 to 4 PM EST).

This free, online, and interactive workshop is designed for researchers, practitioners, and students working with ecological or remote sensing data. No coding or SyncroSim experience required. Led by ApexRMS team members Alex Filazzola, Hannah Adams, and Sarah Chisholm, participants will gain hands-on experience classifying ecological imagery using ecoClassify, a SyncroSim package that simplifies the process of digitizing and analyzing imagery.

Over the course of three hours, participants will learn how to:

  • Transform raw imagery (satellite, UAV, or DSLR) into actionable ecological insights
  • Build and tune classification models including Random Forests, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and MaxEnt
  • Validate model accuracy with metrics, confusion matrices, and variable importance plots
  • Create publication-ready visualizations and share reproducible workflows through SyncroSim Cloud

This workshop provides a practical, accessible entry point into image classification and ecological modeling. Learn how to create and interpret classified imagery while connecting with an engaged community of early adopters.

Registration Details

Our November 5th session is now fully booked, and the newly added November 19th session is filling up fast. Registration is free but required by October 31th, 2025. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the workshop page to register.

We hope to see you there!
