Advancing wildfire risk modeling at the BurnP3+ workshop in Kelowna, BC
This past month, ApexRMS co-hosted a workshop on Wildfire Risk Modeling using BurnP3+ alongside the Canadian Forest Service (NRCan) at the UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC. We’re happy to share that the workshop was a success and feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.
This hands-on, collaborative event brought together wildfire management professionals and researchers to explore wildfire risk modeling techniques using SyncroSim Studio and BurnP3+, the SyncroSim package for wildfire risk modeling. Over the course of the 3-day workshop, participants engaged in discussions on the theory behind wildfire burn probability models, how to build and run wildfire risk models using BurnP3+, how to visualize and share model results using SyncroSim Cloud, and the basics of scripting BurnP3+ workflows using the rsyncrosim R package.
Workshop hosts were especially excited to see course participants building and running fire risk scenarios with their own data and even creating custom SyncroSim packages by the final day of the workshop. This workshop also showcased the recently upgraded SyncroSim to version 3.0 and updates to the BurnP3+ package that have significantly improved the quality of wildfire modeling and user experience. These advancements reflect our commitment to empowering the modeling community with intuitive and reliable tools.
Thank you to our partners at NRCan, our hosts at UBC Okanagan, and to the incredible participants who made this event a success. Your feedback and engagement continue to drive innovation in wildfire risk modeling.
